Beginning note: (I will not go much to in-depth about trees in quests, hatchets you can use in dungeoning, and so on and so forth. This is mainly a guide to leveling up and making money.)

Chapter one:
Section I: What is woodcutting?
Woodcutting is pretty self explanatory: Its the process of cutting down trees for logs. Now why would one woodcut? In my personal opinion woodcutting is on of the "big three" stats. These are the stats that are used to obtain the raw material for money and access to other skills. Woodcutting would be your gateway to fire making and fletching.
Section II: How does one woodcut? What will I need?
You simply need to have a hatchet and a nice tree!
Hatchets: These are your main weapon of attack against the mighty trees in your path. There are nine hatchets each with its own level requirements.
Bronze hatchet: Level 1 woodcutting
Iron Hatchet: Level 1 woodcutting
Steel Hatchet: Level 6 woodcutting
black hatchet: Level 6 woodcutting
Mithril: Level 21 woodcutting
Adamant: Level 31 woodcutting
Runite: Level 41 woodcutting
*Dragon: Level 61 woodcutting
*^Inferno Adze: Level 61 woodcutting
Little footnote about the Inferno Adze: It actually requires 92 mining, 61 woodcutting, and 41 woodcutting to wield. Its woodcutting rate is equivalent to that of a dragon hatchet. There is also a 25.6% chance that you will burn a log that you cut.
Trees: These are your targets that you will destroy mercilessly with your gadget of metal and wood! Now you can't go on cutting the mighty yew tree right away though. You need to meet the standards to even stand in its presences.
Tree: Level 1
Oak tree: Level 15
Willow tree: Level 30
^*Maple tree: Level 45
Yew tree: Level 60
*Magic tree: level 75
Maple tress: While they may be able to trade and burn them in free to play; you can only cut them in a member world. All you need to do is find the station located by Barbarian village, Lumbridge, Edgeville, and the champions guild and cut a canoe there!
*Canoes: There are certain areas in the game where there is a canoe station set up where you can make a canoe to travel one way.
Log canoe: Level 12 woodcutting. This will let you only go to the stations that are right next to you.
Dugout canoe: Level 27 woodcutting. This will get you up to two stations from your current location.
Stable canoe: Level 42 woodcutting. This will let you go between any of the four stations.
^Waka Canoe: Level 57 woodcutting. This one will get you to all four stations and even a trip to the wilderness!
Waka canoe note: The trip is literally one way. you can't canoe your way out. You have to use other means of transportation.
Clothing: If you obtain 44 woodcutting then you can wear lumberjack clothes. These will give you more exp per log.
Chapter 2: Thats all good and stuff but wheres the guide?
Section I: Level 1-15
Welcome to the world of woodcutting! Prepare for the epic journey known as repetitive clicking and listening to music. Now the plan for this part of the long journey is to use and iron or bronze axe in a vast forest filled with normal trees, which can only give you one log per tree, until you can upgrade to a steel or black bxe at level six. Once you upgrade your axe continue to cut down the forest of trees until you reach level 15! This should only take you 97 logs. the fate of your logs can be to your choosing for these. Burn them, fletch them, sell them (for very little money), or drop them!
Section II: Level 15-30
Congratulations! You can now cut down an oak tree! Just find a little oak tree around the realm of runescape and CUT IT DOWN! The great thing about oak trees, and all trees from now on, is that
they give more then one log (usually) per tree! Now just cut these down until you reach level 21 and upgrade to a mithril axe. The fate of your oak logs are similar to the fate of your normal logs. Its all your preference. Just continue to cut until you reach level 30. You should have cut down 293 oak logs!
Section III : Level 30-75
Good job you have reached 30 woodcutting! Now Simply get one more level and upgrade your axe once more! Keep on cutting until you reach 41 woodcutting then upgrade once more! Once you reach 61 woodcutting, and if you are a member, You can buy a dragon hatchet if you want, but for now its an optional deal. Now continue cutting down willows until you reach 75 woodcutting! This may seem idiotic as you can cut yews as early as 60, but the rate at which you cut these yews will resemble the feeling you get when you watched Benjamin Button. It just takes forever... Getting to 75 woodcutting will take you 17735 willow logs! The fate of these are again in your hands. I recommend fletching them if at all possible. If not you could always sell them at the GE. Even with the low price willow logs have you make 150K-ish
Section IV A: Level 75-99
Alright now you get some choices as to what you want to do with the rest of your time! If you are a member I highly advise you to get a dragon hatchet if you can't do that then definitely use Rune. This first choice I'm gonna give you is the real way you make money with this skill. Cutting Yew logs. Yew logs finally come in at a decent pace at this time, and they sell for a whopping 459 coins (please allow for some leeway I will update prices as often as possible.) You will obtain about 67566 Yews from level 75 to level 99 solely cutting them. Thats roughly 31 Mil! (At least the economy of runescape is good unlike ours <_<)
Section IV B: Level 75 -99
This methods only real purpose is to power train in free to play. You power cut willows! MWUHAHAHAHA! You will cut roughyl 175K of these willows if you choose this method, but the rate that you cut them in will be much faster then the yews. You could sell these for about 1.5 mil
*Section IV C: Level 75-85
If you are a member the dragon hatchet in my opinion is still slightly optional, but if you have the income by all means get one!
This method is recommended if you wish to cut magic logs. Magic logs only become viable at level 85, so until that level cut yews or willows as you see fit. If you want money Yews, if you want exp willows, and if you want to be stupid oak. You will need roughly 11K yews or 30K willows selling for 5 Mil and 2.7 Mil respectively.
*Section V A: Level 85-95
This method is solely members. All you do is cut in any method of your choosing, these being Magic, yews, or willows, to get to level 95 woodcutting which the exp gained from cutting maple exceeds that in cutting willows. If you decide to cut magic you will obtain about 22K magics which will sell for 30 mil, 31.5K yews which will sell for about 14 Mil, or 81.6K Willows selling for about 734K
*Section V B: Level 85-99
All you do is cut Magic, Yews, or willows as you see fit... The money you make... Well its a lot.
*Section VI: 95-99
Power cut Maples finally! My hands are getting tired I'll edit the stats later.
To be continued
Note: I know I didn't include Morphic hatchets and such I don't understand them as I'm not a member and am currently to lazy to look them up.
