Mining - Mining is the skill with which you extract ores from rocks. These ores can be smelted into bars and smithed into useful items such as armour and weapons. See the Smithing section of the Manual for more details.
A typical mining site Before you are able to start Mining, you will need to acquire a key piece of equipment commonly known as the pickaxe.
Initially, you will only be able to use a bronze pickaxe, available for purchase at Bob’s Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge, respawn points in Rimmington and the Barbarian Village, and in some general stores across RuneScape. As your skill increases you will find yourself able to wield pickaxes of a higher quality, making it far easier for you to mine.

Smithing - To begin training your Smithing skill, you will first need to understand and practice smelting: the method used to make the bars needed to forge weapons and armour. The most popular way to do this is to mine the ores yourself. This can be done through use of the Mining skill.
Another way, used by many a player, is trading ores and/or already smelted bars with other players. This means that you will be paying gold for someone else's work, but it is a consideration if you wish to master the art of Smithing more quickly

Crafting - With Crafting, you will find yourself able to produce a variety of objects, many of which are sought after and will fetch a good price if you decide to part with them.
Crafting is a very flexible skill, and can help you train most other skills - be it an amulet to watch your crops or increase your gem mining, or armour to help you range. With patience, as your Crafting experience increases, you will find that the items you can craft will be more advanced, and have more uses, such as helping you venture into the dark places of RuneScape.

Runecrafting - Runes are the main components of casting magical spells. Using different combinations of runes will allow a player to cast different spells.
Runecrafting takes place at rune altars. Each type of rune altar converts rune essence into runes of the altar's type. For instance, the fire altar will convert rune essence into fire runes.
